AKVIS SmartMask helps you select the desired area of a picture. Thus, it facilitates applying effects and corrections in a photograph by masking specific areas and removing undesired backgrounds. Although it can be used as a standalone program, you do not need to renounce to your favorite photo editor, because the product is similarly available as a plugin compatible with Corel PaintShop, Adobe Photoshop, AliveColors and some others.
The program allows using two modes: automatic and manual. It is a good idea to try the automatic mode first, in which smart algorithms are used to recognize the desired area; and it only requires that you roughly select the part of the picture that you want to keep. Then, you can switch to manual mode, which consists of using brushes, called Magic Brush and Background Eraser, to make a more accurate selection. It is also possible to use the Quick Selection tool. Additionally, there is the Chroma Key to remove specific colors from a selection. Once you are done deleting the desired regions, you can substitute them with a different background.
AKVID SmartMask has the main advantage of saving a lot of the effort that is usually involved in masking given objects in a photograph. The program is very accurate and doing this as it successfully identifies the edges of irregular objects. Finally, it is also good to know that you can decide which license, Home, Home Deluxe, and Business, to purchase after assessing their functionalities and prices. Unluckily, the product is probably somewhat overpriced, mostly when you have already bought another photo editing package.
